Jarl Heijstee is co-founder and Managing Partner of XSML. His responsibilities include overseeing our activities in Uganda. Jarl has over 18 years of experience in selecting, setting up and managing investment funds in emerging markets. For FMO, the Dutch Development Bank, he structured private equity and mezzanine transactions in Africa and Latin America, with a particular focus on SME and microfinance sectors investing. Prior to FMO, Jarl was a consultant with Arcadis managing private sector investment projects in Eastern Europe. As portfolio manager of ABN AMRO’s Global Emerging Market Equity Fund, he was instrumental in bringing the fund into the top quartile. Before co-founding XSML, Jarl was based in La Paz, Bolivia, where he was responsible for setting up and rolling out a local currency micro-finance fund for Latin America and the Caribbean. Jarl holds an MA in Business Administration from the University of Groningen.
